Types of Storage Mediums

The Fujitsu FM-7 family has several types of medium storages:

  • Bubble Memory - Used exclusively on the FM-8 | 32kb - 128kb
  • 5 1/4" Floppy Disk, 320kb
  • 5 1/4" Floppy Disk, 360kb
  • 3 1/2" Floppy Disk, 320kb
  • 3 1/2" Floppy Disk, 640kb
  • Cassette Tape

I am aware that the FM-8 used 8" Floppy Disks, but this isn't necessary since the medium is too old. Also, there are no known applications stored in it.


Knowing each type is important for media preservation.

Here is what you'll need:

  • 5 1/4" & 3 1/2" Floppy Disks - Appropriate drive and Greaseweazle/FluxEngine/KryoFlux adapter
  • Cassette Tape - USB Cassette Player like ION Tape Express
  • Bubble Memory - No known method due to obscurity.
